Is your Work Experience sufficient for Canada Express Entry?

 Overview

  • Work experience for Canada Express Entry only counts if it is classified as "skilled" under Canada's occupational classification system. The greater your occupational skill level, the more education, and experience you'll need to do your job.
  • The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) uses a point system to evaluate applicants. Work experience, language competency, and education criteria must all be met in order to qualify. You can complete this requirement in a variety of ways, including working full-time for a year or part-time.
  • People with work experience in Canada are eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). You must have worked full-time in a skilled occupation for at least one year.
  • Candidates for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) must also have a certain level of language proficiency.

When it comes to Canada Express Entry, the specific occupation does not matter as much as the skill level. Canada currently analyzes a job's skill level using the 2016 National Occupational Classification (NOC) IRCC will match your job duties with the NOC description to determine your occupation and whether or not it is skilled. When Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) assess your work experience, it looks at how much education is required to do your job.

On the Canadian government's website, there are five NOC competence levels:

Management positions, such as restaurant managers, mine managers, and shore captains, are Skill Type 0 (zero).

Professional vocations that often require a university degree, such as doctors, dentists, and architects, are classified as Skill Level A.

Chefs, plumbers, and electricians are examples of technical vocations and skilled trades that typically require a college diploma or apprenticeship training are categorized as Skill Level B.

Intermediate jobs, such as industrial butchers, long-haul truck drivers, and food and beverage servers, normally require a high school diploma and/or job-specific training fall under Skill Level C.

Fruit pickers, cleaning staff, and oil field employees are examples of skill level D employment that provide on-the-job training.

Only jobs that fall within skill types 0, A, and B are deemed "skilled" for the purposes of Canada Express Entry to be qualified for one of the three Express Entry-managed Canada immigration programs, you must have relevant job experience. "Full-time" is defined by the IRCC as 30 hours per week. You can work more or less than 15 hours per week for part-time work as long as it totals 1,560 hours.

Canada's Immigration and Refugee Council (IRCC) assesses your application on a points system specific to the Federal Skilled Worker Program. At a minimum, you need at least one year of skilled work experience within the past 10 years. Part-time work counts as long as it adds up to the minimum number of hours. Self-employment in Canada does not count.

Boon for the skilled workers as Canada Express Entry draws to resume soon!!!

Shine A Spotlight On:

·         CEC Draws

·         Discussion on changes in Canada Express Entry

·         What is Canada Express Entry

An insight on Immigration Ministers Sean Fraser’s deliberation on Canada Express Entry.

Immigration Minister Claims to resume Canada Experience Class Draws for skilled workers, also they are working to make the Canada Express Entry process more flexible for the aspiring immigrants.

Canada Club, Toronto website on February 16th, 2022 streamed a deliberation between President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada and Fraser in regards with Immigration to Canada.

·        No announcements have been made to resume the draw yet, but definitely in near future.

·      CIC will restore the entire Canada Immigration back on track as per the immigration plan and number of Federal Skilled Workers along with the Canada Experience Class will be welcomed to Canada as the most successful immigration.

Fraser also stated that he would want to see the Express Entry system become more flexible. Express Entry, he suggested, could be used to meet short-term needs such as welcoming people into smaller communities, high-demand sectors, and "people who are coming from a particular region that has the kind of educational institutions that will train the workers we need in strategically important sectors."

"I'm personally digging into building this flexibility into the Canada Express Entry system right now because I think it'll help us to adapt in a more fluid way when we see the rate of transition only rising over time," Fraser said.

In a discussion with Canadian immigration lawyers, Fraser hinted that occupation-specific Express Entry Draw could be a possibility in the future.

One of Fraser's priorities outlined in his ministerial mandate letter is expanding Express Entry options to permanent residency of Canada for international students and temporary foreign employees. Furthermore, he oversees the expansion of the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot and moving forward with the Municipal Nominee Program to address the needs of small towns. In addition to making the Atlantic Immigration Pilot permanent, one of his other objectives was to make it a permanent program.

What is the procedure for Canada Express Entry?

Canada Express Entry was intended to handle immigration applications for employees who qualify for one of three programmes: the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), or the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). If nominated by a participating Canadian province or territory, candidates would also be eligible for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

In general, a candidate's eligibility for Canada Express Entry-managed programs is determined by their prior work experience in "skilled" occupations. If a candidate meets the requirements for an Express Entry-managed program, they can earn points based on human capital indicators such as age, education, job experience, and proficiency in an official language. Candidates with the highest scores are asked to apply for Canadian immigration.

As per the recent Canada Express Entry Survey:

Canada has only been encouraging PNP candidates to apply through the Canada Express Entry route since September 2021. The halt in CEC, FSWP, and FSTP draws is temporary, according to Fraser, while Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) handles with the pandemic-related backlog of immigration petitions.

About 64,890 FSWP and CEC candidates awaited results on their immigration applications as of February 1. There will be fewer Express Entry, Immigrants to Canada this year than there are in the backlog, according to the immigration levels plan for 2022-2024. Without taking into account the number of PNP candidates, Canada is expecting to admit 55,900 immigrants through Express Entry in 2022. Canada expects to entertain 75,750 Express Entry immigrants the upcoming year.

Through Express Entry, Canada expects to receive a record number of 111,500 immigrants by 2024. In the fall of this year, Fraser will present the second immigration levels strategy for 2023-2025. The target set for 2023 and beyond might be subjected to change.

Canada Is Easing The Requirements For COVID-19 Tests For Travellers

Travelers may now enter Canada with an antigen test, and unvaccinated children will no longer be required to quarantine.

International flights to all Canadian airports will resume on February 28. Fully vaccinated travelers will be able to enter Canada with a pre-arrival antigen test, unvaccinated children will no longer be required to isolate for 14 days, and international flights to all Canadian airports will resume on February 28.

Additionally, if fully vaccinated travelers are randomly picked for an on-arrival test, they will no longer be required to quarantine while awaiting results.

The pre-arrival antigen test must be permitted by the nation from which the travellers are traveling, and it must be taken no more than 24 hours before their scheduled border crossing or flight. It is not enough to take a quick antigen test at home to fulfil the pre-entry criteria. A laboratory, healthcare organization, or telemedicine provider must perform the test. Within 72 hours after arrival, travellers can still take a PCR test. The prior molecular test guidelines remained unchanged.

Travelers will still need to use the ArriveCAN app to upload documentation before crossing the border.

Travelers who have not been vaccinated must be screened upon arrival and placed in quarantine for 14 days. On the eighth day of their confinement, they will have to take a test.

The statement was made on February 15 in Ottawa, the nation's capital, by Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos. Ministers of transportation, public safety, tourism, and intergovernmental relations joined him.

GET A FREE CANADA ASSESSMENT FORM

International flights to all Canadian airports will resume at the end of the month, according to Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra. According to a press release, the warning to airmen restricting overseas flights will expire at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

Canada's travel warning will be reduced from a level 3 to a level 2. This implies that the government will no longer advise Canadians to avoid non-essential travel. Despite this, the minister encouraged Canadians to be aware of the dangers of overseas travel during the epidemic.

These measures, according to Duclos, are temporary and may be changed when the COVID-19 situation changes. He predicted that if hospitalization rates fall in the near future, further limitations will be eased.

Border controls are expected to be reduced.

Last week, the health minister hinted at improvements, and Canada's chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, said the government is looking for more long-term measures to control COVID-19.

With a few exceptions, all visitors to Canada must be properly vaccinated. Travelers who have not been immunized must be quarantined. Vaccinated travelers must undergo a pre-arrival COVID-19 PCR test at least 72 hours prior to crossing the border, and they may be subjected to an on-arrival random test.

Last week, Duclos stated that the worst of the Omicron wave had passed Canada, and that the government would continue to alter measures as needed.

Tam stated that Canada's travel warning against overseas travel is under review.

Meanwhile, provincial governments are repealing COVID-19 regulations and eliminating the demand for vaccination passports. By mid-March, Manitoba expects to abolish COVID-19 limitations. Ontario has accelerated its implementation of lax public health measures. Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan have all stated that they want to loosen regulations.

In recent weeks, health professionals and the tourist sector have pressed Canada to remove the COVID-19 test requirement.

The World Health Organization (WHO) advised last month that governments eliminate international travel prohibitions because they do not bring value and cause an economic and social burden. Border controls are useless against the extremely infectious Omicron strain, as proven by its spread. Travel precautions such as masking, testing, quarantine, and immunization, according to WHO, should be based on risk assessment and should not put a financial burden on foreign travelers.

Given the restricted worldwide availability and inequitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccinations, WHO also stated that governments should not require proof of immunization against COVID-19 as the only requirement for foreign travel.
